Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on this part of the island of Montreal named"the West Island. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine all the way west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel began her life in Courtice close to Oshawa. She wanted to become professional, however due to an explosive development spurt, she exceeded the size of her dance partner. The article she wrote about her experience revealed released by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. After I reached the point of outgrowing male dance partners, I stopped. Former dancers often turn into acting and Brugel was no exception. A drama teacher at her high school helped push Bruce in the direction she wanted to go in. The teacher was the one who encouraged her to try out for the role of Anne in their annual school production. A teacher suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. This resulted in the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she was cast as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian participant in Season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
